NYCwiki has three "keys to the city", or fundamental principles, of the project.

	NYCwiki is civic. NYCwiki is a community resource of the people of this city, by the people of this city, for the people of this city. As such, we embrace civic virtues, such as interacting with your neighbors in a respectful and polite manner. Find consensus, avoid edit wars, and remember the larger goal.

	NYCwiki is educational. It incorporates elements of general and specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, gazetteers, directories and neighborhood guidebooks. As an educational resource intended to serve the whole public, we strive for pages that advocate no single point of view, and sometimes this requires representing multiple perspectives, presenting each point of view accurately and in context, and not presenting any point of view as "the truth" or "the best view".

	NYCwiki is open. NYCwiki is free content that anyone can edit and distribute. Be bold in updating pages and do not worry about making mistakes.
